The variety was obtained by the method of analytical selection among seedlings of North American species and belongs to the species Crataegus pennsylvanica. The tree or shrub is medium-sized, reaching a height of 2–4 meters. The shoots are brown, eventually acquiring a gray hue, and are provided with few short thorns 3–4 cm long. The leaves have a broadly ovate shape.

The fruits are spherical, with a diameter of about 20 mm and a weight of 4 g (up to 6.5 g maximum), colored red. The flesh is juicy, and the taste is characterized as sweet and sour. Fruit ripening occurs in September. The plant possesses resistance to cold and drought.
