The Honey Dew cultivar type represents a group of melons of the species Cucumis melo L. The ripening period is 75–90 days. The plant is an annual with trailing stems.
Fruits are round or oval in shape, with a weight ranging from 1.5 to 4 kg. The skin is smooth, without a pronounced netting, and changes color from light green to creamy white upon ripening. The flesh is creamy, white, or pale green in shade, characterized by juiciness and sweetness with the absence of a distinct musky aroma.
The cultivar type is characterized by drought tolerance, resistance to major melon diseases, as well as high transportability and good fruit keeping quality. It descends from the White Antibes variety, which has been widespread in Europe since the 15th century.
The purpose of the variety is universal: fresh consumption, culinary use, and commercial cultivation. The name is often used as a collective term for a group of Inodorus-type varieties.
