The historical variety Honeygold is early-maturing and was obtained by crossing the varieties Hearts of Gold, Honey Dew, and Vegetable Peach. Its feature is the ability of the fruits to detach from the vine before the onset of full biological maturity, which makes the variety suitable for northern cultivation conditions.
In modern seed catalogs, the name Honey Gold may be used to denote various green-fleshed honeydew-type melons. Depending on the producer, the characteristics of such hybrids may vary, including maturity periods of about 85–90 days and resistance to diseases such as Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew.
