Fruits of this group are larger than those of a typical cantaloupe melon, have a light green or greenish rind covered with a delicate netting. The flesh is distinguished by its juiciness, sweet taste, and pronounced aroma, and has a bright orange color. The plants possess vigorous growth and long stems.
Unlike many cantaloupes, Persian-type fruits do not detach themselves from the peduncle upon ripening. The group may include both F1 hybrids and specific breeding lines, which possess various indices of disease resistance and maturity dates.
