The variety is mid-season, with a ripening period of about 100 days. The vigorous plant forms vines 2–3 meters long. Each plant produces 1–2 fruits of a round, slightly pear-shaped form with a smooth grey-blue or turquoise-blue rind.
The fruit flesh is bright yellow or orange in color, with a dense non-fibrous texture, a sweet aroma, and a distinct nutty flavor. The fruits store well until April. The variety is open-pollinated and suitable for culinary use in baked dishes, soups, and pastries.
The plant requires a sunny, wind-protected site for cultivation. Blue Ballet is considered a smaller version of the Blue Hubbard variety, maintaining its characteristic fruit type.
