The variety has a vegetation period of 100 to 130 days. The roots reach a length of 20–30 cm, have a conical or elongated-cylindrical shape, a golden-yellow surface color, and often a greenish tint to the core.

The flesh is characterized by a tender, juicy, and crunchy texture, intense spicy taste, and moderate sugar content. The color of the roots is retained during thermal processing. The plant possesses cold hardiness and is suitable for long-term storage.

The variety is a traditional heirloom from the Rhineland region. Despite its initial designation for fodder purposes, it is widely used in cooking for the preparation of soups, stews, salads, and winter preserves.
