The Ballantyne variety is a spray-type carnation. Morphological characteristics include fully double flowers of a solid greenish-yellow color with finely serrated petal edges.

This variety was used as breeding material for developing new carnation varieties. Specifically, it served as one of the parental components in the creation of the 'Lyra' variety.
