The Baltico variety is classified as a standard type Dianthus caryophyllus L. carnation. In the professional sector, it is used for cut flower production.
During phytopathological studies, the variety was identified as susceptible to Fusarium wilt caused by the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi race 2. The variety was also the subject of comparative trials aimed at studying sensitivity to ethylene and the vase life of cut flowers.
