A compact shrub possessing some of the darkest leaves in the genus Diervilla, which have an oval shape and are colored in shades of brown and burgundy. Flowering is accompanied by the appearance of yellow flowers, creating a contrast with the foliage and attracting bees. After the flowering period ends, seed pods form on the plant.
The plant is characterized as winter-hardy and low-maintenance. A key agronomic feature is the reduced formation of root suckers. In landscape design, the shrub is used to create color accents and for border planting.
