The shrub is characterized by upright stems and a compact habit. The leaves have an oval shape and a characteristic arch, which gives the plant a unique texture. The leaf color varies from brown to almost black, providing a contrast with the bright yellow flowers.

The flowering period lasts from June to September, attracting bees and other pollinators. After flowering, the plant forms seed pods that extend the decorative period. The plant is hardy, winter-hardy, and heat-tolerant, adapting well to various conditions, including partial shade, although a sunny location is preferable for maintaining intense leaf coloration.
