The plant is a shrub with thin, gracefully curved stems, reaching a height of 60–120 cm. The inflorescences are gathered in long, often drooping racemes. It is used primarily as an ornamental cut flower crop or a pot plant.
The species is a short-day plant with natural flowering from October to February. Cut stems have a vase life of about 7 days and require special treatment due to the secretion of milky sap. The crop is sensitive to ethylene and fungal diseases.
