The plant belongs to the subspecies Festuca rubra ssp. litoralis (Festuca rubra trichophylla). The variety is characterized by very fine leaves, forms a dense turf, and has short creeping shoots. Leaf color varies from medium to dark green.
The variety possesses marked resistance to snow mold, rot, and red thread. It possesses moderate drought tolerance and the ability to tolerate shading. Compared to other subspecies of red fescue, it is distinguished by increased salt tolerance and better tolerance to low mowing.
Joppa is used for the creation of decorative lawns, landscape gardening, and grassy surfaces subject to wear.
