The Pennlawn variety is a perennial herbaceous plant with narrow, thin leaves of a bright green color. The leaf blades are usually V-shaped, which makes them appear almost round. A purple or reddish tint is often present at the base of the stems.
The plant possesses a developed rhizome system, which allows the variety to form a dense sod layer. The crop is distinguished by high winter hardiness and drought tolerance, as well as the ability to withstand shading and mechanical stress when used as part of lawn mixtures.
