Variety description

The variety belongs to the subspecies of Florence or vegetable fennel. The plant forms dense, rounded, fleshy white bulbs, which develop from the thickened bases of the leaf petioles. The foliage is feathery and aromatic.

The variety is late-maturing and less resistant to bolting compared to modern hybrids, therefore it is recommended primarily for autumn cultivation. It prefers sunny areas with rich, well-drained soil; hilling is required to obtain bulbs.

All above-ground parts of the plant are edible as a vegetable crop or a spicy-aromatic herb. Optimal growth is observed at temperatures of 18–20°C.
