The variety is a local selection from the Campania region, Italy. The period from planting to harvest readiness is about 90 days. The plant forms a rounded, dense bulb and possesses thick, fleshy leaves.

The variety is characterized by bolting resistance and a certain degree of cold hardiness. In the Mediterranean climate, it is traditionally grown as an autumn crop with sowing in summer and harvesting in the autumn-winter period.
