The variety belongs to June-bearing plants and is not day-neutral or everbearing. Under Southern California conditions, it was characterized by a short dormancy period and a high yield for its time, reaching 17 tons per hectare.
The variety is susceptible to a number of viral diseases, in particular those causing symptoms of leaf yellow edge. In modern breeding, Lassen has historical significance as a genetic progenitor of many commercial varieties.
