The variety is characterized by high resistance to red root rot caused by Phytophthora fragariae, as well as to Phytophthora crown rot. The height of plants of this variety can vary significantly depending on growing conditions; in particular, plants in protected cultivation can be significantly taller than in open field.
The berries of the variety are small or medium-sized, have a bright color and good resistance to damage, and they detach easily from the calyx. The variety is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for making jams and baking.
In the framework of scientific research, work was carried out to create transgenic lines of the Melody variety using the cowpea protease inhibitor gene to increase resistance to weevils.
