The garden strawberry variety Toro was obtained as a result of crossing the breeding lines Cal 37.20-45 and the variety Sequoia. It belongs to the June-bearing group of varieties and often serves as a historical control sample in genetic studies.

Plants of this variety possess high vigor. The fruits are characterized by a large size. In modern commercial practice, the variety is considered classic and has been mostly replaced by newer productive and resistant hybrids.
