The Seneca variety was developed at Cornell University as a result of crossing the hybrid NY 1261 with the Holiday variety. The plant forms bushes with moderate growth vigor. The variety belongs to the mid-season category, sometimes characterized as mid-late.
The berries have a round shape with a pronounced neck and light-red coloration. Their size varies from medium to large, with the fruits tending to decrease in size throughout the season. The flesh of the berries is characterized as soft, and the flavor is described as mild and simple.
The variety does not possess resistance to red core root rot and Verticillium wilt. Seneca was used in breeding programs as a parent form, however, its commercial cultivation is limited due to susceptibility to soil-borne pathogens.
