Variety description

The plant forms clumps; during the winter or dry season, the aerial part dies off, while nutrients are stored in the rhizome. The stems are reed-like, and the leaves are lanceolate. The inflorescences are drooping clusters with small orchid-like flowers.
The species is thermophilic; optimal growing zones are 9–11 on the USDA scale. In temperate climates, the crop is grown as a potted or house plant. The inflorescences have high vase life, remaining fresh in a vase for several weeks.
The plant is intended for decorative purposes: it is used in landscape design in regions with a warm climate, as a house plant, and for cut flower production.
