The variety Ružica was developed at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb within a breeding program led by Professor Ružica Henneberg. The variety belongs to maturity group 0–I, which classifies it as mid-early.

The plant is used in scientific research as an object for evaluating the stability of protein and oil content in the grain. The variety demonstrates adaptability to various growing conditions, including under the influence of stress factors, such as drought.
