The plant forms a rosette of smooth, shiny, light green leaves. At maturity, the Guzmania reaches a height of 45–50 cm with a rosette diameter of about 45 cm. The inflorescence consists of bright, voluminous bracts with a ruby or fuchsia shade, while the flowers themselves are small and inconspicuous. The leaves closest to the inflorescence may have a ruby shade.
The variety is intended for cultivation as an ornamental pot plant. Flowering occurs once in a lifetime, with the ornamental effect lasting from 2 to 6 months. The plant prefers moderate humidity and quality drainage; it is sensitive to waterlogging and low temperatures. It is propagated vegetatively or by tissue culture.
