The variety Sparacia was developed through mass selection from Sicilian populations. The plant is characterized by an erect habit and early flowering, outperforming many similar varieties in this regard.
Used for the production of hay, green fodder, and grazing. The fodder contains condensed tannins, which prevents bloating in animals and improves protein digestibility, although the fodder itself is characterized by a coarse structure and high moisture content.
The crop is adapted to Mediterranean conditions and areas with rainfall levels of less than 950 mm, while tolerating mowing better than intensive grazing. The plant demonstrates reduced productivity in cold and humid climate conditions.
