The CMS-3-8 line is breeding material and a tool for developing sunflower hybrids, acting as the female parental form. The designation CMS indicates the use of the cytoplasmic male sterility system necessary for hybrid seed production.
This line is used in scientific research aimed at improving oil quality, specifically at increasing oleic acid content. In breeding work, the line is also evaluated for resistance to pathogens, including the charcoal rot pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina.
