The variety Kyoto, often found on sale under the names Kyoto Yellow or Sunny Kyoto Yellow, belongs to the species Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. This is a compact plant that, when grown in pots, can reach a height of about 35 cm, although the size of the bush depends on care conditions and pruning.

The flowers of the Kyoto Yellow variety are single, yellow with a dark red base, with a diameter of 10 to 18 cm. Variations of Kyoto Red with red flowers with an orange hue are also found. Flowering usually occurs from late spring to autumn; under favorable conditions, it is possible in other seasons.

The plant is a tropical crop and does not have winter hardiness, therefore it is recommended for indoor cultivation with the possibility of moving it to verandas or terraces during the warm season. The variety is characterized as relatively low-maintenance, with high disease resistance.
