The barley variety Alva was used in scientific research as a standard sample for comparative analysis, the study of amino acid composition, and the influence of volatile organic compounds on plant biomass. Research on the hordein proteins of this variety was also conducted for its identification.
In breeding work, the Alva variety was used as a parental line in the development of other barley varieties. The amino acid composition of the grain is characterized as above average, which is associated with a relatively low protein content.
