The barley variety Canut was developed within the Carlsberg Plant Breeding program. Between 1991 and 1994, the variety demonstrated high yields under Danish conditions, the values of which were used as reference indicators during those years.
The plant possesses pronounced resistance to pathogens, in particular, to all studied isolates of barley leaf rust. The primary use of the variety is in the malting industry; furthermore, the variety has been used as a parental component in the creation of new breeding lines.
