The variety belongs to winter forms of barley. The plant possesses resistance to a number of pathogens, including barley yellow mosaic virus. The variety characteristics regarding stem length and lodging resistance are recorded in official German agricultural crop classifications.
In European breeding practice, the variety gained prominence as genetic material. New winter barley varieties, such as Merlot, Lomerit and Naomie, were developed based on it.
