Variety description

10 August 2026

Claret barley is a two-row spring type variety. Its pedigree includes breeding lines associated with the variety Vada, as well as specialized breeding material from Rothwell Plant Breeders Limited.

Morphologically, the variety is comparable in height to other common barley varieties. In scientific studies, Claret has been examined in the context of research on resistance to leaf stripe caused by the fungus Pyrenophora graminea and has demonstrated links to European lines possessing sources of resistance.
