The Denar barley variety is an object of breeding research and is widely known in the international scientific community. It is used for mapping resistance genes, in particular to powdery mildew and root nematodes.
Scientific research has confirmed the presence of adult-plant resistance traits to powdery mildew in the variety, as well as the study of genetic control of resistance to nematodes with the detection of the corresponding locus on chromosome 7H. The variety often appears in genetic populations intended for the creation of mapping crosses.
