The variety is classified as winter barley. Breeding records mention the genetic combination Nika x Igri. In scientific literature, the variety has been used in comparative experiments on salt stress, where it was classified as a sensitive accession.
Studies involving this variety have also covered the investigation of grain composition, including beta-glucan and arabinoxylan content, as well as the study of straw characteristics, specifically lignin content. This breeding variety should be distinguished from Tunisian local barley ecotypes of the same name.
