Variety description

10 August 2026

Newton is a winter two-row feed barley. It has a long vegetation period, comparable to mid-season winter wheat varieties, and requires a vernalization period to initiate heading.

The plant is of the tall type with a semi-prostrate growth habit in early developmental phases, which ensures competitiveness against weeds. The variety possesses high tillering capacity and the ability to produce significant biomass.

Due to its tall stature and vigorous growth, there is a risk of lodging, therefore the use of growth regulators is recommended. The level of disease resistance varies; moderate resistance to rust and leaf spot has been noted.
