Safir is a spring malting barley variety. In scientific literature, it became known as a carrier of powdery mildew resistance genes, specifically a gene originating from the local Balkan accession Imunne 25, due to which it was actively used in breeding programs to improve quality characteristics.
Precise current morphological and agronomic data for the variety are absent in open sources, as it is archival material created during the breeding period of the late 1970s.
