The Sarbi barley variety belongs to the spring form of the crop. In breeding, the variety was obtained as a result of crossing the Sparkle and Laurikka varieties.

In the 2017 research materials, the variety is characterized as being susceptible to severe Ramularia infection. The variety is used in breeding work to develop new varieties, such as NOS Playmaker.
