The variety was derived from the combination (Algerian/Herta) × (Rika/Drost) or (Lyallpur × Ingrid⁴) × (Rika × Drost). The variety belongs to the spring two-row barley group and is hulled.
The plants possess good resistance to lodging and to a range of diseases, including powdery mildew and rhynchosporium. The variety is traditionally used as feed and also serves as a subject for scientific research on grain chemical composition, including the content of protein, β-glucans, and arabinoxylans.
