The variety is a hybrid of Prunus avium (clone F299/2) and Prunus pseudocerasus. It was selected from the same family of sterile hybrid seedlings as the Colt rootstock. The primary purpose of the rootstock is for use with ornamental cherry species, such as Prunus serrulata; use for sweet cherry and sour cherry varieties is not recommended.
The rootstock has greater vigor than Colt and promotes the formation of trees with straight stems and good trunk girth. In the first years of life, trees grafted onto it demonstrate more vigorous growth compared to other hybrid rootstocks. The variety propagates easily and promotes early flowering of the ornamental forms grafted onto it.
