The variety was bred by Japanese breeder Hiroshi Ebihara in Tochigi Prefecture between 1985 and 2001. The variety belongs to the "Frau" breeding series, also known as the "Japanese Lady Series", and is part of the "Halo Hydrangeas™" group.

The inflorescences of the variety are globular and large. A characteristic feature is the two-tone coloration of the sepals with a "picotee" effect, involving a contrasting border or a dark center ("bull's eye") against a background of white, blue, lavender, wine, burgundy, or pink petals. The variety is intended for ornamental gardening.
