The variety with the trade name Curly Wurly is a compact shrub 0.45 m to 1.2 m tall and 0.6–1.0 m wide. The plant has dark green ovate foliage with a serrated margin.

A distinctive feature is the globose inflorescences in which the petals are curled inward, forming a "popcorn" or wavy texture. The flower color changes from pink to blue depending on soil acidity.

The flowering period falls between June or July and August or September. The variety withstands temperatures down to -15°C and requires wind-protected areas, sufficient watering, and a specific soil composition.
