The variety is a vigorous upright shrub 1.2–1.8 meters tall. One of the distinctive features is the dark red, almost black stems that contrast with the dense dark green foliage.

The inflorescences have a spherical shape. Depending on the soil pH level, the flowers can be violet-blue or deep cherry on acidic soils, and pink or raspberry-pink on neutral and alkaline soils. Flowering is abundant, beginning in mid-summer and continuing until early autumn.

The shoots are strong and hold the large inflorescences well. The variety corresponds to USDA hardiness zone 6; planting in protected locations is recommended. It is used in landscape design for solitary and group plantings, creating hedges, and container cultivation; it is also suitable for cutting.
