The term is used to designate various clones of Hydrangea macrophylla characterized by variegated foliage. The shrubs reach a height of 0.8 to 1.5 meters and bloom in July-August with corymbose or spherical inflorescences. The flower color varies from pink to blue depending on the soil acidity level.

Plants of this group are demanding in terms of moisture and require sheltered planting locations, as flower buds are often formed on the previous year's shoots, which are prone to freezing. In ornamental landscaping, they are used for creating mixed borders, solitary plantings, and container cultivation.
