A deciduous spreading shrub reaching a height of 1.5–2 meters and can be wider than its height. The leaves are large, up to 10–20 cm in length, broadly elliptical or obovate in shape, dense, glossy, and dark green in color.
The inflorescences are corymbose, of the lacecap type. Marginal sterile flowers are large, white, sometimes acquiring a pink hue, becoming dark pink by the end of flowering. Small fertile flowers in the center of the inflorescence change color from pinkish-blue to blue depending on soil acidity.
The plant is characterized by hardiness and winter hardiness, preferring partial shade. Flowering continues from July to August, sometimes until September. Like other varieties of the species, it can be susceptible to spider mites, scale insects, powdery mildew, gray mold, and leaf spot.
