The name "White Ball" in horticulture often causes confusion, as plants of different species are sold under it. In most cases, Hydrangea arborescens is encountered for sale under this name, characterized by a height of 1.4–1.5 m and sometimes reaching 2 m. Its flowering period occurs from June–September, with the formation of large spherical inflorescences of pure white color, 20–30 cm in diameter. This species is distinguished by high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to -30...-35°C, and is used for solitary and group plantings, as well as hedges.

Regarding Hydrangea macrophylla, there is no confirmed data on the existence of a breeding variety named "White Ball". This name is often used as a marketing or trade designation for various white forms of Hydrangea macrophylla whose origin is not standardized. In some cases, white-flowered plants from other series may be sold under this name, which is a marketing tactic.
