The genotype is characterized by a medium-early bud break and a protandrous flowering type, in which male catkins open earlier than female flowers. An important feature of this specimen is the lateral bearing type, which allows for fruit formation on the lateral buds of shoots.
In studies, the FK5 genotype is described as susceptible to the bacteriosis Xanthomonas juglandis. The specimen was included in experimental groups by breeders due to its promising characteristics; however, it is not a widely distributed commercial variety.
