The variety name Klostervalnød translates from Danish as "monastery walnut." The mother tree of the variety historically grew on the territory of the Hempel estate in the city of Odense, built on the lands of the former St. Knud's Monastery.

Currently, the variety is not industrial and is rarely found in large-scale production, but it is maintained in specialized collections and offered by select nurseries. Detailed agronomic characteristics, including precise fruit parameters and disease resistance, are not recorded in publications.
