ActiveJuglans regia L. · Persian walnut
Stat Exp Davis (US)
10 August 2026
The variety is a slow-growing tree of small or medium size, reaching a height of 3–5 meters. The main ornamental feature lies in the purple-red color of the foliage and young shoots, which can acquire an almost black hue.
Fruits ripen in September and may also have a purple tint; the kernel is distinguished by reddish skin. The taste qualities of the fruits are comparable to common walnut; however, the yield of the variety is lower than that of commercial cultivars, which makes the plant valuable primarily as an ornamental element for parks and gardens.
