The Portval variety is a vigorous rootstock obtained by breeders from local populations of natural hybrids. It is intended exclusively for use in nursery production as a root system when growing grafted walnut seedlings.

The purpose of developing this rootstock is to ensure the suitability of seedlings for use in intensive orchards. Since this object is not a fruit-bearing variety, characteristics of fruit taste quality or ripening periods do not apply to it.
