The plant forms a loose rosette of leaves 20–25 cm high and approximately 25 cm in diameter. The leaves are crisp, wavy, and blistered, light green with a characteristic bronze tint at the edges. The period from sowing to harvest is from 30 to 60 days.
The variety is characterized by resistance to bolting, which allows it to be grown in elevated summer temperatures, as well as relative resistance to downy mildew and lettuce aphid. The plant regrows well after cutting and is suitable for cultivation in open field, greenhouses, and containers.
Used primarily for fresh consumption, preparing salads, and "baby-leaf" salads. It is an open-pollinated variety that historically originated in the USA in the late 19th century.
