The variety belongs to the subspecies macrosperma and is a typical representative of the castellana type of lentil. It is frequently used in research as a control sample for the comparative analysis of breeding lines and wild species.
The variety is characterized by susceptibility to infestation by the bean weevil (Bruchus spp.). Saponin content is approximately 1.1 g/kg, with the dynamics of their degradation during culinary processing being studied, as well as the ability of the seeds to hydrate and change structure during soaking and cooking.
