The plant is a compact, upright, cushion-forming perennial 15–20 cm tall. The leaves are gray-green, lanceolate, with soft velvety pubescence that gives them a silvery hue. Flowering is accompanied by the formation of star-shaped inflorescences consisting of small flower heads surrounded by densely pubescent white bract leaves.
The flowering period lasts from June to August; the variety is capable of blooming a week earlier than other varieties. The variety is winter hardy, requires well-drained, light, predominantly calcareous soils, and is sensitive to moisture stagnation, especially in the winter period.
The plant is used in ornamental gardening for landscaping alpine gardens, rock gardens, stony gardens, growing in containers, in group plantings, and as a cut flower crop.
