The plant is a robust perennial reaching a height of 1 to 3 meters. Its turban-shaped flowers with strongly recurved petals are orange-yellow in color with brown spots, measuring about 7–10 cm in size. One racemose inflorescence can form from 10 to 20 flowers.
The flowering of the species occurs in the second half of summer, from July to September. The plant is characterized by high frost resistance (USDA zones 4–8) and disease resistance. In gardening, the lily is used as an ornamental crop, and in breeding, it is valued for its stem strength and the transmission of disease resistance.
